Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous experience in the specific trade prior to applying?(Eg: office experience prior to applying for a business traineeship)

Not necessarily but having some work experience on your resume will definitely help. We understand that this might be your first job so there are other things we look for such as knowledge of the trade, presentation and attitude.

How do I know if my application has been received for the position I applied for?

If applying through our website, a message will appear at the top of the form when you have submitted your resume and cover letter. If applying for a position through seek, seek will load a new page confirming your application. If in doubt, feel free to call our recruitment team on 02 9715 7344 or send your resume and cover letter through to resumes@1300apprentice.com.au.

When I’ve applied for a position, how long does it take 1300apprentice to call me?

That depends on the time of year it is but generally it is within 48 hours. Please note that only successful applicants will receive a call from 1300apprentice as there may be eligibility requirements for some positions.

Are apprenticeships or traineeships full or part time?

Apprenticeships and traineeships can be either full or part time but this is decided by our host employers. In general, most apprenticeships and traineeships are full time. The most common form of part time apprenticeships and traineeships are school based. School-based training allows you to work one day per week for two years whilst completing your HSC. If you are doing an apprenticeship, this will reduce your time by 12 months.

Will I have to attend TAFE for this qualification?

In short, yes. All apprenticeships require you to complete a theoretical component as well as on-the-job training. However, this training isn’t always provided by TAFE. Organisations that provide the theoretical component to your apprenticeship or traineeship are called Registered Training Organisations (RTO) and can be both public or private. At 1300apprentice we use both TAFE and private RTOs to deliver training depending on the vocation. All of the RTOs 1300apprentice use deliver nationally recognised qualifications so you can be sure that your qualification is recognised throughout all of Australia.

What should I wear to interviews with 1300apprentice and the host employer?

How you present yourself for an interview with both 1300apprentice and the host employer is very important.

How do I know if I’m successful for an interview or not?

If you successfully pass the first round of interviews at our office we will then forward your details to our host employers who will make the final decision. After attending an interview with our host employer we will notify you if you are successful or not via phone. For candidates that we don’t put forward to a host employer, we will notify you within 48 hours of your interview at our office where we may ask you to remain on our database for future opportunities.

Is this a paid apprenticeship/traineeship and if so how much will I get paid?

Apprenticeships and traineeships are paid, but how much you are paid depends on the industry award. Every award is different meaning each apprenticeship and traineeship will pay differently. For more information ask one of our recruiters or visit the NSW Industrial Relations website.
