About the opportunity

This 4 year apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to work towards becoming a professional in your preferred trade. Throughout the first 3 years of your apprenticeship, you will receive on the job training whilst completing a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician at TAFE, with your fourth year being purely practical experience. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work amongst over 200 qualified trades people across multiple disciplines in Council to work towards delivering projects and maintaining Council’s assets.

With approximately 500 buildings owned by Council, you will be required to assist in the maintenance of these buildings and other infrastructure. Some of your duties may include testing and tagging of tools or equipment, installing and maintaining lighting in sporting facilities, wiring, light installation and fault finding. This apprenticeship is great for someone who is interested in this field of work, is hands-on and enjoys working in a close team environment.


Who can apply?

  • Applicants must be entering their first year of an apprenticeship, and must notbe registered as an apprentice with another employer. 
  • Applicants must hold, or be able to obtain, their driver’s licence (provisional) by January 2018.
  • Applicants must be an Australian citizen or be eligible to work in Australia (evidence required).
  • Applicants currently studying a pre-apprenticeship trade (Certificate II) are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Benefits of working at Council

The salaries and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Blacktown City Council Enterprise Agreement.

  • A salary range of $426.40 – $709.10 will be offered per week, based on age and level of schooling completed.
  • A 76 hour fortnight, with one rostered day off (RDO).
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements, 9.5% employer superannuation contribution, Fitness Passport and gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
  • Additional training opportunities (tickets and licences).

NOTE:

  • The selection process requires selected applicants for all positions to undertake an aptitude test and a medical examination.
