How To Get Started

If you are looking for an apprenticeship or traineeship what do you need to do to get started?
There are four simple steps to launch yourself into your new career.

1. Pick Up the Phone
Call us on 1300apprentice (1300 277 736) to arrange your interview. Ensure that you know which career path you are wanting to follow. (NOTE: Make sure you follow the next three steps carefully.)

2. Resume
If you don’t have a resume then you will need to create one. Microsoft Word has resume wizards that can assist you with this process, however the main points to include are your personal information, education details, interests and achievements and employment history. It is also important to record the dates of your employment history with months and year and don’t forget to list any casual work.

You are now well on your way to kick-starting your career!

3. Preparation
Preparation is critical. You need to prepare well for an interview in order to impress the potential new employer. Research the trade you are looking to get into as well as the company that is interviewing you. Employers love it when you can tell them all about their company. Research and understand all the tasks and duties that you think you will have to undertake. When you are asked questions in an interview make sure your answers are clear and concise. Try not to pad out your answers too much, but also remember that one or two word responses are also not sufficient.

4. Presentation
Ensure you are well dressed for the interview. Even with an apprenticeship where you will not wear a shirt or tie in your day to day duties, it is better to wear this attire during an interview. It will demonstrate to the interviewer that you are serious about the trade or career you have chosen and that you mean to do well. Also, make sure you are well groomed and try to keep piercings and hair colouring to a minimum. Dress smart and you will come across as smart.
