Telecommunications Technical Specialists are responsible for designing, overseeing, and delivering technical support for telecommunications networks. They also install and maintain computer hardware, computer systems, and various communication technologies, including microwave, telemetry, multiplexing, satellite, and other radio and electromagnetic wave–based systems.
Tasks
- Assessing and configuration of equipment in convergence technologies that integrate radio, optical and internet protocol (IP) based applications
- Fault finding
- Assessing installation requirements
- Install, maintain, repair data transmission equipment, ariel lines, conduit, cables, radio antennae and telecommunications equipment
- Examine drawings, specifications to determine positioning and connections for equipment to be installed
Future prospects
- Specialisation in optical networks, wireless networks, cabling networks, telecommunications networking or radio communications
- Certificate IV in Telecommunications engineering technology
