From School to Trainee of the Year

Jiwon started her Vocational Education and Training (VET) journey while in year 11 at high school.

She started her Australian School-based Apprentice (ASbA) employed by 1300apprentice undertaking a Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways. In November 2023, Jiwon graduated Year 12 with a tertiary package and because of a successful traineeship, transitioned to a full-time Certificate III in Business.

In January 2025, Jiwon started her Diploma of Business traineeship in the “VET in Schools Project” as a  Support Officer, the next step forward in her career journey. While in school Jiwon was always an academic student and through her education was led to believe that a tertiary pathway at university was the only way to succeed.

Jiwon now realises that over the last three years she could not have progressed in her career as far as she has today if it was not for the opportunity through VET to develop my soft and technical skills. Knowing that her experience as a former ASbA and tertiary student makes her better equipped to provide quality vocational training information gives Jiwon pride in her work.

“VET can truly transform the lives of any student.”

Jiwon has just won ACT Training Awards – Trainee of the year 2025 and now heads to Darwin for Australian Trainee of the year.

Good Luck Jiwon!!!
