Where are they now – Abbey Graf

Abbey Graff, School based traineeship, ANZ

Why did you decide to do a school based traineeship? Throughout year 10, I was convinced school wasn’t for me. During my schools ‘HSC Subject Selection Process’, my Career Adviser highlighted the possibility of an SBAT with ANZ that combined real world work experience while still in school, with the bonus of earning while I learned. I am not going to lie, I was pretty anxious about the process, but any anxiety left with the excitement when I received an email informing me that I had an interview for ANZ Bank and I was successful!

What did you achieve during your school based traineeship: The passion that I had for my traineeship enabled me to stay focussed and achieve multiple goals I would never have achieved along the way. I took every opportunity to attend work, even on my days off and holidays, which allowed me to complete my 100 working days. I was also nominated by 1300apprentice for the School Based Traineeship Award and I won!

What would you say to anyone who is undercided about doing a school based traineeship? I would highly recommend anyone taking on this opportunity and gaining the experience I have had. I was able to build more confidence, gain hands on experience in the workplace and get paid for it, while also completing my HSC.

I had accomplished what every teenager desires.

This opportunity gave me the confidence to continue to learn. I applied for university and was successful with an early offer from Western Sydney, undertaking a Bachelor of Community and Criminal Justice.

We are so proud of you Abby and wish you all the best for the future!
