How Apprenticeships Work in Canberra
An apprenticeship combines paid work with nationally recognised training, much of it delivered locally through CIT. 1300apprentice is your legal employer, so if a host employer’s workload changes we can move you to another host and keep your apprenticeship on track.

- We match you to a host employer in Canberra or the ACT.
- You sign a training contract and start paid, on-the-job work with training.
- You attend CIT or a registered training organisation for the formal qualification.
- We employ you, pay your wages and support you through to completion.

Where We Place Apprentices Across Canberra and the ACT
We recruit, employ and place apprentices right across the ACT and into the surrounding NSW region, including:
- Belconnen, Bruce and the inner north
- Canberra city, Fyshwick and the inner south
- Woden, Weston Creek and Tuggeranong
- Gungahlin and the northern districts, plus the greater NSW catchment around the ACT
We also service Wollongong and the Illawarra and Sydney.
Trades and Industry in the ACT
Canberra has a steady, government-backed construction and infrastructure pipeline alongside a large public sector, which supports consistent demand for electrical, plumbing, carpentry and engineering apprentices, as well as business and IT traineeships. CIT is the ACT’s main training provider for these trades, and our office is based on the CIT Bruce campus.
What You Earn and ACT Support
Apprentices are paid award wages that increase with each year of the apprenticeship, so you earn while you learn. Adult apprentice rates may apply if you are 21 or over, and ACT and Australian Government incentives and subsidised training can further support your apprenticeship.
